Tell us about yourself.

Within my practice, I like to explore art and design as potential platforms for social change, education and personal growth. Art is a frame through which I experience and make sense of my environment. My artworks usually possess a bold architectural and geometric element- it’s the way I perceive landscape, form and depth. I’m drawn to large planes of flat colour and negative space. I think that this perspective has been influenced by my experience with graphic and spatial design. I enjoy painting and illustration, and have recently experimented with sculpture.

In May this year I graduated from UNSW, and have since exhibited in two shows at Hazelhurst Arts Centre. As a trained teacher, I enjoy guiding, assisting and leading others in creative pursuits. I am currently working as an instructional designer at EdApp, a mobile-based corporate learning startup. In my spare time, I like to play field hockey, take my dogs to the beach and go out dancing with friends.

What can the audience expect of your response to the theme?

The sculpture I am exhibiting is the most personal artwork I have ever created. It is an expression of my attempts to navigate and control who in my life knows about my bisexuality. The sculpture is representative of the emotional toll it takes on an individual to constantly be moderating oneself whilst trying to keep something a secret. Through its installation in a public gallery, it is an act of relinquishing control over who ‘knows’, as well as an attempt to shed some light on the struggles of LGBTQ+ people, who may navigate the experience of ‘coming out’ throughout their whole lives.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Caring, friendly, indecisive.
