Starr explores ” Old world Europe ‘ in this small Dalmatian fishing villiage in Croatia.
The Adriatic Sea surrounds this eastern peninsular harbour , that envelopes its people and defines its way of life . Transfixed in pre-war times, Sućuraj evokes a sense of yesteryear.
From the sun weathered faces in old stone dwellings to the salt watered seascapes , Starr captures the spirit of Sućuraj, and it’s island people .
The inspiration of this body of work is driven by David’s knowing that his late father in law , Dinko Kumarić, lived this peaceful village life from 1916 until immigrating to Australia in 1939. Born in Sućuraj , his sprit returns to its mystical sea.
